Do we need a "Mass Social Awakening" ?

"A girl raped in kathau, communal angle suspected", "A girl harassed, raped and threatened by an MLA in Unnao, UP ", hundreds of news like this are becoming common in the current prevailing scenario.

Are we really living in a society that has its foundation stone laid by great knowledge and teaching of Mythical stories and great sacrifices by freedom fighters to give birth to a new and prosperous India?
Nowadays flipping the pages of the newspaper, headlines like the ones mentioned above are becoming common. It could be regarded as a failure of our society, which claims to respect women, which worships goddesses but fails to realize that it is equally important to respect the "Normal Women". I mentioned "Normal Women" because our society finds it difficult to realize the difference between respecting an Idol and the Real Women.

Going more deep into the issues and finding the reasons leading to an increase in the number of rapes, we easily found that; Firstly, decreasing sex ratio and a peculiar want of "a boy child"; Secondly, failure of societal integrity; Thirdly; lack of education; Fourthly, lack of stringent and deterrent laws and practices, and more importantly no fear of law amongst an accused on the time of committing the crime.

These issues are merely giving us a direction to the causes but more gruesome is that in this incidents our beloved and so-called " People Representatives", a lot of times gives very irresponsible statements, news of asking accused about his "feelings" by a politician creates the major negative societal message among the people, but it also assures many a time an accused that he should not fear after committing the crime. The role of our politicians should not be to politicize everything but to make people aware of the ills and problems a victim goes through.

A possible remedy may be to spread the message to change societal behavior towards such incidents, by making them realize about the dearth and pain this sort of incidents inject into victims life.
Also, our civil servants and politician need to work in a quorum to create a safe, positive environment and attitude toward women, society to have to put their foot into the issue and recheck the beliefs and redevelop the harmony which once considered as a power of Indian society, and does the ripe to begin a mass movement to awaken society, similar to national freedom movement?
